Sonnys didn't start with a business plan. It started with a teenager, a car, and a conviction that Michigan deserved better sneakers.
At 16, Hussein "Sonny" Koussan was making the drive from Grand Rapids to Nike outlet stores across the state — hunting down the heat, the limited runs, the pairs that nobody else in the city had — and bringing them back to sell outside his father's shop. No storefront. No investors. Just product knowledge, hustle, and an instinct for what people actually wanted to wear.
That instinct built Sonnys.

Our Story
A Legacy of Style, Passion & Purpose
Sonnys was founded in 2019, born from the dream of creating a go-to destination for stylish clothing and sneakers.
The vision began with Hussein (Sonny) Koussan, a young entrepreneur with a deep love for fashion — especially Jordans — and an even deeper drive to build something of his own. At just 16 years old, Sonny would drive from Detroit to far-off Nike outlets, hustling to bring back the best sneakers to sell outside his father’s shop in Grand Rapids.
His passion, hustle, and eye for style quickly made him a local standout. Sonny dreamed of owning his own clothing and sneaker store — a place where community, culture, and style came together.
Tragically, Sonny passed away at the young age of 28. But his spirit and ambition didn’t fade. His younger brother, Ali, made it his mission to bring Sonny’s vision to life.
In 2019, the first Sonny’s store opened in Grand Rapids. Since then, we've expanded to West Dearborn and Novi, continuing to grow while staying true to our roots.
Today, Sonnys isn’t just a store — it’s a tribute. A tribute to hard work, resilience, and the love of fashion that Sonny embodied every day. We are proud to carry his legacy forward by offering our customers the best in sneakers, clothing, and a shopping experience that truly reflects the energy and passion Sonny poured into everything he did.
